Bring education to your community and members!

Your Labor Center can bring the University of Iowa to your community with a customized off-campus program that addresses the unique needs of your members.  Topics available include Collective Bargaining, Grievance Handling, FMLA, ADA, Iowa Workers' Compensation, Labor History, Health & Safety, Organizing; and so much more.

What can you expect from an off-campus Labor Center class?

  • We work with you to customize the agenda to your needs

  • You pick dates and times best for you and your members

  • You determine whether it will be in-person or online via Zoom

  • We can bring our own projector and screen (or set up Zoom links)

  • We provide copies of the agenda and participant handouts

  • Classes include interactive discussions, real-life scenarios, and up-to-date information

Off-campus program fees vary, depending on the size and type of the sponsoring organization:

  • Iowa-based local unions with fewer than 1,500 members or community-based nonprofits: $600/day, plus printing costs

  • Regional or national conferences held in Iowa or large Iowa-based locals with more than 1,500 members: $800/day, plus printing and travel costs

  • Out-of-state programs: $1,000/day, plus printing and travel costs

A sliding scale fee reduction for local unions or Iowa-based organizations experiencing financial hardship is available on a case-by-case basis.

Instruction in Spanish and/or simultaneous interpretation in other languages may be available if requested in advance.

What participants are saying about our classes...

I loved the hands-on, scenario-based workshops.

The ability to attend these classes has helped me educate my co-workers, family, and community on various laws and workplace rights that affect all workers in the state of Iowa.

Excellent! Well taught, by knowledgeable instructors.
